Girl with the Arrow

Chrissy Straigisher '08 (July 2008)
Kianu Alumna

My name is Mandi Summers and I am a current Kianu active. I hadn't really looked at the website since pledging but I was just going through and looking at past Girl with the Arrows. As I looked I realized that this would be a good way to recognize a sister who has meant so much to me in my Kianu life.

I would like to nominate my big sis Chrissy Straigisher ('08) for Girl with the Arrow. Since the first time I met her I have looked up to Chrissy. She is kind, easy-going, funny, beautiful, and everything else that embodies Kianu. Even in the short year and a half that we shared as actives I watched her grow and become a better person through her Kianu experiences and through various ways she has passed this wisdom on to me. Chrissy has inspired me to be the best woman that I can be, both in and out of Kianu. She taught me that most situations that you come across in Kianu can be applied to real life and therefore should be treated as learning experiences. She taught me that it's ok to be mad at Kianu sometimes but that no matter what you always love it; which is a lesson that I use daily both in and out of the club.

I will always remember the last night of rush when Chrissy told me that she would always be my friend and be there for me, no matter what choice I made; and I knew that she meant it with her whole heart. These words really resounded with me when she told me that she would be leaving for San Antonio after graduation for an internship with the WNBA San Antonio Silver Stars. I was sad of course, and didn't know what I would do without her guidance and support. But just as she had done for me, I told her that I would be there for her no matter what. Chrissy has given so much to me and to this club, but has never let go of her own dreams. She deserves nothing but the best in life and I'm sure no matter what gets thrown her way she'll find the good in it, all the while holding the hands of other sisters in need.

Love in XAN and mine,
Mandi Summers’10
